This is a permanent, full time position, based in Plymouth, MN located just outside of Minneapolis.


Covance Food Solutions in Plymouth, Minnesota is a branch facility of Covance Food Solutions (CFS) headquartered in Madison, WI. Formerly known as Food Perspectives, CFS Plymouth is a full service consumer testing company with its own state-of-the-art central location testing facility, access to a trained taste panel, and national partnerships that provides consultative services to the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry. Using a variety of quantitative, qualitative consumer, and sensory testing techniques we evaluate consumer and product data to produce clear and meaningful insights. These findings help accelerate our clients’ ability to:

  • Develop new product ideas
  • Optimize an existing product
  • Re-energize a well-established product
  • Assess product-concept fit or packaging effectiveness
  • Understand the product, brand and category competitive landscapes
  • Support capital investment decisions thru gauging consumer interests
  • Present objective results to management

As a Client Service Director, you will work in close collaboration with clients, creating customized consumer and sensory research solutions to fit the client specific business needs and generate insights that are meaningful and actionable. You will build and maintain top-quality customer relations with assigned clients. You will also work towards winning new business and cultivate client relationships by fostering premier customer service. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of your assigned studies and will be asked to support, mentor, and challenge one another continuously.


Additionally in this position, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and sell customized consumer and sensory research solutions using Covance tools and capabilities.
  • Provide Covance support teams with the design specifications necessary for efficient development of quality test materials and implementation plans.
  • Interpret research results, draft PowerPoint reports, and communicate insights and implications to our client.
  • Monitor project scope changes and communicate cost consequences to the client in a clear, timely and efficient manner.
  • Be proactive in identifying unmet client needs and advancing them as potential new research service opportunities for Covance.
  • Strive to continuously improve processes, deliverables, and value.

What we’re looking for in you:

Do you have the following education, experience, and personal attributes?

  • Bachelor degree in a business, marketing, scientific, business or related field (or equivalent work experience) with advanced degrees in sensory science preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field, including sensory or marketing research and new product development (preferably with advanced sensory science experience with both consumers and trained panelists)
  • Hold a track record of applying research to develop new products and influence business decisions
  • Excel in a fast-moving environment with frequently changing priorities
  • Driver mentality, capable of handling several projects at once, and highly resilient
  • Ability to help clients work through situations with fuzzy objectives and incomplete information to develop a clear problem statement and study design.
  • Initiative and skill at establishing new relationships and creating consultative partnerships
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and delegate appropriate tasks to ensure the clients’ research goals, budgets, and scheduling parameters are adhered to as outlined in the RFP while still balancing Covance financial targets.
  • Ability to see the story in data, take a stand, and tell a clear story both written and orally.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver that is energized by opportunities to apply training and experience in new and agile ways
  • Flexibility to participate in meetings across various time zones outside core working hours and occasionally work extended hours to adhere to client deliverable timelines
