Position Summary

You will provide senior global leadership in the development of evidence-based, compelling, innovative and fiscally responsible proposals for clients in the Inflammation, Infectious Disease and General Medicine therapeutic area. Working closely with Business Development to identify and win new business, and across the organization to bring the best thinking and comprehensive study/program delivery plans to exceed client expectations. In addition, this position provides associated training and coaching to the project team on aspects pertaining to project strategy, including risks and contingency planning.


Essential Position Duties

  • Using an evidence-based approach, work with meaningful business development staff and operational leaders to design innovative, but practical and fiscally responsible strategies for inclusion in relevant business development documents and for use in the successful implementation and conduct of clinical trial programs for clients.
  • Senior regional contact for both internal staff and clients for matters pertaining to IIGM S&P.
  • Effectively mentor Manager, S&P level, and above in management of new business opportunities and development of strategies for preferred provider or partnership activities.
  • Effectively network with others throughout Covance to ensure relevant input to project strategies and associated planning activities occurs.
  • Engages with project teams at key time points in the project lifecycle to ensure actual performance is in line with strategic plan and provides advanced interventional guidance when required.
  • Remain current with industry innovations and advances so as to include relevant advances and technology into the design of trial strategies.
  • Line management responsibility for the recruitment, training, utilization, development and performance review of assigned personnel.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • University/College Degree (preferably postgraduate degree in Science).
  • PhD Preferred.
  • Deep understanding of global drug development and the clinical trial project management process.
  • Thorough and practical working knowledge of ICH-GCP Guidelines, including relevant international requirements/guidelines for the conduct of global clinical development programs.
  • An understanding of aspects surrounding Covance business development (time and cost estimates, bid defense, contracts) and Covance procedures -including Standard Operating Procedures.



Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum of ten (10) years relevant clinical research experience in a pharmaceutical company/CR0, including at least five years of full project management responsibility.
  • Minimum of two (2) years developing evidence-based strategies for including into a clinical development plan, as a response to a request for proposal or as part of a strategic partnership development plan or response.
  • Scientific knowledge in a variety of therapeutic areas, especially infectious disease, inflammation, dermatology, hematology, respiratory, gastrointestinal, women’s health.
  • Very strong technical presentation, writing and analytical skills, along with excellent communication, planning & organizational skills.
  • Strong networking abilities and an ability/willingness to work with international teams.
  • Ability to inspire, to lead by example and motivate teams to seek solutions and get results.
  • Strong abilities to negotiate and liaise with customers in a professional manner.
  • Thorough experience in end to end (full service) clinical trial management, ideally with global project management experience.
  • Abilities to review/analyze relevant data so as to build evidence-based strategies
  • Abilities to design/develop effective strategies to bring about trial success, as defined by clients and project teams.
  • Strong computer skills with an ability to understand and access and leverage technology alternatives.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to handle multiple competing priorities effectively.
