Research Assistant I/II

The Anczuków Lab at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT is seeking a Research Assistant I/II. The Lab investigates how changes in RNA splicing contribute to breast and ovarian cancer progression as well as drug resistance. The successful candidate will join a rich and stimulating working environment and will perform research and will occasionally assist with administrative lab duties.


The Research Assistant will conduct a variety of biochemical, molecular, and cellular experiments to characterize changes in gene expression regulation underlying tumor progression. Techniques include, but are not limited to, 3D cell cultures and related cell based assays, immunofluorescence and microscopy, molecular cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, RT-PCR and Q-PCR, protein extraction and western blotting, and RNA-sequencing. Requires the ability to generate and accurately record test results in lab notebooks and computer, as well as to analyze experimental results within reasonable time constraints and compile the data for the PI review. The individual will also assist the lab manager with day-to-day supervision of lab equipment, ordering, and biosafety protocols.


The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual who can communicate effectively, work well independently as well as in a team environment, acquire new skills rapidly, and have versatility in a laboratory setting.




  • Level I: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 1 – 3 years of directly related experience.
  • Level II: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline OR 3 – 6 years of directly related experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Prior experience in mammalian cell culture is a must. Experience with 3D culture models would be a plus.
  • Desired basic biochemistry and molecular biology techniques include RT-PCR and Q-PCR, molecular cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, protein extraction and western blotting, microscopy.
  • Must be organized and capable of keeping a reliable notebook record of experiments (both on paper and electronically).
  • Experience planning and troubleshooting experiments is preferred.
