The Sr. Manager Bioanalytical will lead with all areas of science and operations for the measurement of business metrics to drive key performance indicators throughout the department. Key areas of focus are productivity, efficiency and core department deliverables for service and quality. The Senior Manager will drive processes focused on assay and method development based on a firm understanding of Ligand Binding and Bioanalytical Chemistry processes.

 

In this position, you will manage a team of scientists who provide technical support and troubleshooting for ongoing production projects. Collaborates with other Covance laboratories, specifically involving technical issues. Has the ability to serve as Principal Investigator for Method Development projects or to mentor others in doing so. Provides technical training and assistance internally, maintaining very high technical standards for the entire team.

Job Duties:

  • Leads a staff of analytical scientists.
  • Provides technical mentorship and assistance to scientific and operations staff as necessary.
  • Participates in training of instrument operators and scientists in proper operation and application of analytical hardware and software (e.g. ELISA, MSD, RIA, ligand and cell-based assay platforms).
  • Responsible for implementation of training and mentoring program for staff members.
  • Leads initiatives, in conjunction with colleagues at other sites if applicable, to drive utilization of new technologies and automation.
  • Serves as the main contact regarding methods development and troubleshooting, ensuring precise transfer of methods.
  • Acts as research scientist, in a collaboration setting, for technical direction on complex projects.
  • Monitors progress and status of assigned studies.
  • Ensures the scientific objectivity, credibility, and expertise of the department.
  • Participates in the planning and managing of business development and marketing activities.
  • Contributes to long-range planning and technical policies of the department.
  • Responds to unscheduled deadlines, client needs crises, etc. without neglecting other duties.
  • Participates in client visits.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and recruits staff to support business needs.
  • Works with Human Resources to implement appropriate affirmative action, salary administration, and communication programs within the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for

Senior Managers are the most successful at Covance with:

  • PhD in Chemistry or equivalent degree, plus 5 to 10 years related experience.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification preferred.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical instrumentation.
  • Skilled in separation techniques using ELISA, MSD, RIA, GYROS, and other analytical techniques.
  • Knowledge of preclinical/clinical assays
  • Skilled in performing presentations.
  • Skilled in time management, planning and budgeting.
  • Pharmaceutical background in Drug Disposition, Drug Development and use of specific instrumentation including Spectromax and MSD plate reader(s), Gyrolab xP, Perkin Elmer Wizard is helpful.
