We are currently seeking a RD Cell Therapy Molecular Scientist.

The Scientist (Cell Therapy R & D) works within the Cell Therapy Team to advance Precision’s approach to engineering T cells and producing cell therapy products with potential applications in immuno-oncology and additional therapeutic areas. The Scientist carries out research projects that support development of T cell therapy platforms in accordance with Precision’s goals. The Scientist position is lab-based and will share facilities and resources with the Therapeutic Discovery and Cell Therapy teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership in advancing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) and T cell receptor (TCR) sequences and other constructs from internal development programs and external collaborations through the process of construct design, DNA synthesis and assembly of constructs for functional testing

  • Coordinate with Cell Therapy Group Leaders to plan experiments that need to be carried out to achieve Precision’s goals for developing T Cell Therapies
    • Perform additional molecular biology tasks to support ongoing cell therapy research programs
    • Assume responsibility for QC, cataloging, and tracking of plasmids
    • Devise and execute strategies for cloning constructs for expression of additional proteins or molecules anticipated to enhance the function of next-generation engineered T cells
    • Devise and execute strategies for engineering and cloning new chimeric antigen receptor and TCR constructs
    • Generation of constructs for the production of viral vectors
  • Coordinate with Scientists, Research Assistants, and Research Associates to plan and carry out experiments to achieve Precision’s goals for developing T Cell Therapies
    • Work collaboratively on aspects of experiments to be performed by other members of the team as part of a larger ongoing experiment, including testing in cell based assays to evaluate new CAR, TCR, and other novel receptors and molecules to be expressed in engineered T cells
  • Contribute to driving the scientific direction of the Cell Therapy group
    • Coordinate with Group Leaders and SVP of Cell Therapy to design constructs with novel architecture to impart addition desirable properties to CAR and TCR cell therapy products, such as safety switches, dual-specificity, etc.
    • Report results to Cell Therapy Group leaders
      • Share new data, file reports as needed, maintain updated electronic lab notebook records
      • Assist in publishing, patenting or presenting data as needed
      • Assist in general operation of the Molecular Biology lab and Cell Culture facility
      • Coordinate with Group leaders to make sure:
      • Cells and other reagents are available for experiments as needed
      • Consumables are ordered and stocked as needed
      • Shared resources are utilized appropriately between teams
      • CO2 and LN2 tanks are filled when needed
      • Equipment is properly maintained
      • SOPs are written and updated for techniques and assays


  • Education/Experience:
    • PhD in molecular biology/immunology with a minimum of 4 years related industrial experience and/or training.
    • MS in molecular biology/immunology with a minimum of 7 years related industrial experience and/or training.
    • BS in molecular biology/immunology with 10 years related industrial experience
    • Previous protein engineering experience is strongly preferred
    • Previous experience producing constructs for viral vector production (lentivirus, adeno-associated virus, adenovirus) is preferred
    • Familiarity and experience with primary cell culture, siRNA, shRNA, and gene editing a plus
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific journals. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
    • Demonstrated, extensive experience with molecular biology techniques is required, including: PCR, restriction digestion & cloning, primer design, plasmid isolation and analysis, bacterial transformation and screening, extraction of genomic DNA, DNA sequencing and analysis. Accompanying data analysis software proficiency is required
    • Familiarity with T cell biology is desirable, with strong preference given to candidates with extensive knowledge of TCR and immunoglobulin rearrangement and sequence analysis and previous experience designing constructs for expression of recombinant TCRs and CARs. Candidates with prior experience designing bispecific antibodies will also be considered.
    • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
    • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.
